Nandini Kumar graduated and Post-graduated in Clinical Pathology from Trivandrum Medical College. She was involved in medical research in the Gastroenterology Department, Trivandrum Medical College and in Liver Clinic in the Institute of Medicine, Madras Medical College. Later in the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) her major work involved Traditional Medicine Research and bioethics besides others. She was closely involved in the formulation of the national ethical Guidelines, stem cell research guidelines and other Drafts including ASU (Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani). As member of executive committee of Forum for Ethics Review Committees in India (FERCI), and member of Forum for Ethics Review Committees in Asia Pacific (FERCAP) she is involved in ethics committee related activities in India and is national and international surveyor for ethics committees. She is Fogarty Fellow graduate in bioethics (International Stream), from the University of Toronto, and recipient of grants from Genome Canada and Fogarty International Center, National Institute of Health, USA. Besides publications in the area of ethics and traditional medicine she is also a reviewer for the same. She is member of President Obama’s Commission for the Study of ethical issues (international panel) and member of several other national committees. Presently she is Dr. TMA Pai Endowment Chair for Bioethics in Manipal University, Karnataka, and adjunct faculty there and other institutions.
