Dr Michelle Singh was born in Durban, South Africa. She is a registered Medical Biological Scientist by profession and is currently a Project Officer at the EDCTP (Africa Office). Prior to joining the EDCTP, Michelle managed a project portfolio of both clinical and laboratory-based maternal and child health research studies at the South African Medical Research Council and the University of KwaZulu-Natal. These studies included investigation of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections and infant nutrition. Michelle graduated with a Master of Biomedical Science (2003) and a Doctorate of Philosophy (2010) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The focus of her postgraduate research has been on the early diagnosis, treatment and management of perinatal HIV.
